BEL Engineering works primarily in the defence, nuclear, renewables and oil and gas sectors and operates from an advanced manufacturing facility based in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne.

As a Cell Manager, you will provide effective supervision and leadership, and manage the day to day operations of the allocated machining cell(s) here at BEL Engineering.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead, motivate and develop your team to achieve business goals, ensuring all work standards are met and aligned with company policies & procedures
Effectively communicate and implement company policies, procedures and practices
• Drive the SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) culture throughout operations
• Implement and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
• Lead daily SQCDP Cell Meetings
• Proactively manage absence and performance management issues, including disciplinary procedures
• Ensure full compliance to all business standards (H&S, Quality and site performance)
• Ensure incidents/accidents are captured, reported and contained with corrective actions
• Support the Operations Manager in delivering business objectives
• Provide guidance and feedback to team members, clearly setting expectations
• Identify poor performance and manage through performance improvement plans
• Ensure that the team’s training and development needs are identified and met
• Promptly contain faults and put corrective actions in place
• Understand and drive OEE across the site
• Ensure constructive handover and capture of all issues is completed
• Practice and maintain 5S standards

Who we’re looking for

To apply, we ask that you have experience working in a manufacturing environment in a management/supervisory role. You must have an understanding of 3 & 5 Axis CNC machines and their capabilities, experience of working in a subcontract manufacturing environment and manufacturing components for various industries (aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, defence) is desirable.

Excellent communication and people management skills are essential, as is the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment with a focus on improvement. A proven leader, you will have the ability to develop your team through coaching and training. You will demonstrate a positive, innovative and motivated approach to your work combined with an ability to work under pressure within time constraints.

An HNC or NVQ Level 4 in Engineering is essential or an apprenticeship certificate in a relevant engineering discipline. IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous.
