British Engines Group company, BEL Engineering, has worked closely with North Tyneside Learning Trust, a collaboration of 44 schools, to support their World of Work Programme that offers employer enriched career interventions to schools in North Tyneside.
To support the programme, the business took part in a series of events including mock interviews, teacher networking events and career speed dating.
More recently, BEL Engineering invited 25 budding engineers into its site from a collection of sixth forms in the region (Burnside College, Churchill Community College, George Stephenson High School, Monkseaton High School, Whitley Bay High School). The visits were part of the trust’s Think Engineering Enrichment Programme.
Think Engineering is a programme of masterclasses giving students access to a range of local engineering employers and the opportunity to meet employees and apprentices. The programme supports students by teaching them employability skills to apply for apprenticeships or higher education.
Angie Patterson, Project Lead at North Tyneside Learning Trust, said: “Giving young people access to life in the workplace and meeting employees not only increases their understanding of career opportunities, but also inspires the students to aim higher.
“The programme relies on support from local companies and we are really grateful for BEL Engineering’s support. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
