British Engines Opens Apprenticeships Early with 22 Positions Available

British Engines has opened its apprenticeship applications early in line with a nationwide initiative to advertise apprenticeships alongside undergraduate degrees.

Young people can now use the UCAS platform to search and apply for apprenticeships alongside degrees, under a new initiative announced earlier this year by the Education Secretary.

As part of the initiative, the leading engineering group has listed 22 new apprenticeship opportunities in its latest recruitment drive, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce from within.

The North East employer unveiled various roles for its September 2024 intake ranging from manufacturing, assembly and maintenance, to design and business administration, offering young people a variety of career options within the company.

The successful applicants will follow in the footsteps of over 1,000 apprentices, who have progressed into numerous roles as they begin their careers on one of the North East’s longest running apprenticeship schemes.

In collaboration with training providers, TDR Training, South Tyneside College Marine School and CQM Training, engineering apprentices within the British Engines Group spend 20 weeks at college, before joining one of the group’s eight businesses. Apprentices are then based on-site four days per week, spending one day per week at college for the remainder of the programme.

The British Engines Apprenticeship+ Scheme provides a specialised in-house training programme designed to enhance the academic and vocational learning experiences of engineering apprentices beyond standard apprenticeship requirements.

As an integral part of the award-winning scheme, engineering apprentices participate in an activity week in the Lake District during their third year. This experience includes team-building activities aimed at enhancing leadership and communication skills through outdoor activities.

Opportunities are available at British Engines Group sites in Cramlington, Walker, and South Shields. Successful applicants will be invited to an assessment day at TDR Training on Quorum Park in Longbenton.
