From Business Apprentice to Marketing & Communications Manager

Jade joined the British Engines Group as a Business Apprentice in 2011 and has worked her way up to become Marketing & Communications Manager at group company, CMP Products. We caught up with her to find out about her journey to the top!

When did you start working at CMP and what was your role?

I joined the company in 2011 as a Business Apprentice working in the customer services department, particularly in European sales. I was responsible for raising customer orders and dealing with key customer accounts.

How did you become Marketing & Communications Manager?

Once I completed my apprenticeship, I was offered a role as Marketing Assistant in 2012 until 2015. During this time, I was also studying at university from 2011 to 2014.

I moved into the role of Digital and Internal Communications Coordinator following my Marketing Assistant role in 2015. I managed all digital marketing activities for the business, worked on website developments, implemented new internal communication initiatives and managed two members of staff. I was then offered the role as Marketing & Communications Manager in 2021, where I now lead a team of four.

What training have you completed during your time at the British Engines Group?

I completed a BA (Hons) in Advertising Management at Northumbria University in 2014 and a Digital Marketing Professional Diploma in 2016 with the Digital Marketing Institute.

I’m currently studying for a CIPR Specialist Diploma in Internal Communications to aid the development of our employee engagement initiatives.

The best thing about working in the marketing department in general is working with so many different countries and cultures! For instance, China’s social media is completely different to the UK, so understanding the tools and trends is really interesting.

What does a regular day look like for you?

Every day in marketing is different! One day I’ll be working on marketing strategy development, the next day I’ll be working with our technical team to map out new product launch processes.

Generally, I start my day by using our planning tool so I can separate tasks out to the team and plan for any meetings. I regularly catch up with the regional managers across our 10 global offices that we organise the marketing activity for.

What is the most difficult thing about your role?

I’d say the most difficult thing is trying to keep up with all of the marketing trends!

TikTok wasn’t even a thing when I started in marketing and now it’s massive. The same with Chat GPT which is new and taking over! The challenge is trying to keep time aside to find out about the new tools that are constantly being created and understanding if they can be implemented within CMP but at least it keeps it interesting!
