This week, we were pleased to welcome a group of 24 undergraduate engineering students from Singapore to our BEL Valves site as part of our continuing partnership with Newcastle University. The students are part of a larger group of 60 students visiting the site over a three week period to receive health, safety and risk assessment training whilst gaining experience of a working engineering environment. The training, which is part of their professional and personal development, is delivered on site by our mutual training partner, Karen Allison from Forward Training Solutions.
In addition to the formal training, the day also included an introduction to the company, a brief overview of the product portfolio and a tour of the factory. The students then completed a risk assessment on the BEL Valves factory.
All of the students enjoyed the day, “I really enjoyed seeing the older factories vs the newer factories and how we integrate HSE into the old buildings and adapt for the newer buildings”.
The visit allowed the students to learn about, and experience how, health, safety and environment (HSE) practices and procedures are applied to a busy engineering environment. The students also had the opportunity to speak to our graduate engineers about careers in the subsea industry.
