This role has the primary function to support the company's commitment to achieving excellence in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and compliance with legislative requirements. The role will also proactively identify, plan, and implement initiatives that drive continuous and sustainable improvement in HSE performance.
What you'll be doing:
- Advise and support those responsible for HSE activities to develop a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and shared ownership throughout the company.
- Proactively review and develop the health and safety management system to ensure continued compliance with ISO 45001. Continuously monitor and maintain the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
- Ensure all company policies, procedures, and directives are consistently implemented and adhered to.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of internal HSE policies and procedures to ensure they remain compliant, up to date, and effective.
- Support customer and third-party audits as required.
- Identify areas for HSE improvement by analysing current performance and implementing effective continuous improvement methods.
- Produce regular written reports on HSE performance, including progress against key performance indicators.
- Assist and support management in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and non-conformances, ensuring all events are properly reported.
- Support the implementation of corrective and preventative actions, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and incorporated in company policies and procedures.
- Design and coordinate training programmes and presentations to enhance HSE awareness and proficiency across the workforce.
- Actively participate in the planning and facilitation of meetings to review HSE performance and policies.
- Collaborate with management to engage employees, contractors, and visitors in safety initiatives, particularly those at greater risk, using an employee approach to eliminate unsafe behaviours.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to employees on HSE performance, including leading or supporting regular toolbox talks.
- Arrange and deliver HSE inductions for new employees and onsite external contractors.

Who we are looking for
You will have significant experience working in a busy manufacturing environment, with a proven track record in the management of hazardous substances (COSHH) and a deep understanding of machinery safety in line with PUWER 1998 requirements.
A strong background in Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems is essential, along with substantial experience in environmental management$ûideally with IEMA membership. You must also have direct experience in internal auditing to ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 standards and hold relevant qualifications as either an internal or lead auditor.
Excellent communication skills are vital, with the ability to present information clearly, make logical and timely decisions, and effectively influence and motivate others. You will be fully computer literate, confident using a range of software systems, and able to manage your time effectively while working independently and solving problems as they arise. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are fundamental to success in this role.
A NEBOSH or NCRQ Diploma is preferred or working towards achieving this qualification. Possession of a NEBOSH General Certificate is required.
