British Engines is a leading engineering group with a long heritage in the North East of England since 1922.
Employing approximately 1,200 people, our eight businesses design, manufacture, assemble, test and service leading products and components for a wide range of industries including the renewables, digital, defence, power, nuclear, aerospace, robotics, oil and gas, chemical, marine, construction and agriculture sectors.
As a Trainee IT Field Engineer, you will provide both remote as well as on site, first and second line IT support for the group. There may also be a requirement for occasional travel to our other manufacturing facilities across the North East.
What you'll be doing
- To take responsibility for handling calls and providing first and second level support to employees
- To work as part of the hybrid IT team (Internal & MSP) and maintain the company’s installed IT infrastructure
- To visit users in their location, whether it be on site or in an offsite location
- If required, liaise with third party support
- Specifying, purchasing, and deploying new hardware solutions
- To participate in any necessary projects and undertake fact finding to support the project
- To write and maintain procedures for configuring equipment and installing software
- To provide training for users, as is considered appropriate
- To work in a safe manner; driving positive behaviour and leading by example with regard to the company’s health, safety and environmental policies
- To carry out any other duties not listed above as may reasonably be expected
Who we're looking for
Ideally, you’ll be educated to degree level, or have gained relevant experience through previous roles.
You must have exceptional customer service skills and a good general knowledge of IT. Strong technical knowledge of current Microsoft Windows operating systems is essential. A good understanding of basic networking concepts such as DHCP, DNS, IP Addressing etc is also beneficial. Hardware maintenance experience is not essential but will be required to a certain degree as part of the role. You must be a team player and possess excellent communication skills along with an organised and flexible approach to work. They must also have a professional and calm attitude with the ability to troubleshoot first line faults quickly to provide a solution to the problem. A full UK driving licence is essential and previous experience of working in a manufacturing environment would be preferred. This position will be on a full time, permanent basis. The hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Friday.
