As Design Engineer you will design and develop new and bespoke products from concept to market launch. You will play a key role in delivering innovative, compliant and manufacturable engineering solutions.

You will support delivery of key project milestones through CMP’s stage-gate process, providing technical input, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

 

What you'll be doing

 

Design & Development

  • Work on new product development projects in line with the approved stage-gate process
  • Plan and manage allocated project tasks to ensure completion within agreed timescales
  • Design and develop new products or improvements to existing designs
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings using 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawing software

Documentation, Data & Systems

  • Generate and maintain parts lists and bills of materials in line with QA procedures
  • Ensure design documentation is accurate, controlled and up to date
  • Work in accordance with CMP quality assurance systems at all times

Prototyping, Testing & Validation

  • Prototype designs and prepare test samples for validation
  • Conduct design validation testing to ensure compliance with relevant standards and customer requirements
  • Interpret test results, draw conclusions and present recommendations to the project team
  • Maintain test records and produce formal test reports in line with QA procedures

Standards, Certification & Compliance

  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant European and international standards and directives
  • Liaise with Certification Engineers to support third-party testing with certification bodies

Manufacturing, Cost & Cross-Functional Support

  • Coordinate with Production teams to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture and assembly
  • Support achievement of cost targets through effective design choices
  • Provide technical assistance to Product Management and Sales teams, including product information and problem-solving

 

Who we're looking for

 

To apply you will be motivated and technically capable with experience in a design or engineering role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineered products environment. You will have experience supporting product development projects and working through a stage-gate development process.

 

A degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering is desirable.

 

You should be proficient in 3D CAD and 2D drawing production, with the ability to interpret and create technical drawings and manage engineering data, including bills of materials. A good understanding of prototyping, testing and validation activities, along with a working knowledge of relevant standards and directives, is important.

 

You will be a well-organised and self-motivated individual with strong attention to detail and problem-solving capability. A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. Strong communication skills, a proactive approach and a willingness to learn and develop are key, along with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

 

This is a full-time, permanent position working day shift. To support an improved work-life balance, CMP operates a 9-day fortnight (9/10) working pattern. This allows employees to work compressed hours and, as a result, enjoy every other Friday off.
